redbelt - an award winning disaster.

If you aren’t familiar with New Zealand’s 48 hour film festival, it’s a fixed time-format short film competition that attacks participating teams with random genres, film techniques and characters before giving them 48 hours to create a 5 minute short film.

It’s how I got my first taste of film-making at the age 0f 16, when our team Couch kumara won the Wellington City finals for the first time. 15 years, 11 entries and numerous awards later, I found myself in a new country, this time at the helm of my own team, with an ambitious special effects heavy Splatter film.

To spoil the results for you, we missed the hand-in deadline. We did, however, win the national best disqualified film award, which I consider a small reprieve from the devastation of disqualification.
